5th day in America

We had Dr Hallion’s lecture of diplomacy of America. The lecture was difficult to understand because she spoken in English. I did not understand what she said, so I thought I must study English more.

Afterwards nine students, Nikki and I played volleyball at the University of Maryland. The court is very beautiful, in Japan there are almost no volleyball courts on campus. The University of Maryland is very big, like a city.
Then we went to Nikki’s apartment to eat some pizzas and relax. The apartment is beautiful and also Nikki’s room!! The pizzas were delicious!! We had a nice day and I’m enjoying my time in America!!

I am glad you are enjoying your time here in America. I had a lot of fun playing volleyball with you yesterday. I hope that we have a chance to play again!

Hi Tomoya! I am glad you are having a good time here, even if you are feeling frustrated by your difficulties with listening comprehension. It takes a lot of practice! Also, if you have a background in US history or world history, as some of the group do, that makes it much easier to follow the lecture. If everything is completely new, it's hard even if your English is perfect! For example, I would have a hard time understanding a technical lecture about nanotechnology even in English because I don't have background knowledge in that.
